It’s no secret that many of the foods we eat today can be detrimental to our health, but did you know that simple cooking might be making your meals less healthy? Millions of years ago, our ancestors ate only raw foods and today, raw foodists believe that a diet of uncooked, unprocessed and organic foods can give you more energy and better health, help you lose weight and supercharge your immune system.

Fruits and veggies come pre-packed with things your body needs, but when you cook them at temperatures above 116 degrees Fahrenheit, important enzymes are destroyed and essential vitamins and minerals are leeched out. What’s left calms your hunger but doesn’t completely feed your body’s nutritional cravings.

Organic raw foods like vegetables, sprouts, fruits, nuts, sea vegetables and seeds contain everything your body needs. They have also not been contaminated by preservatives, refined sugar, salt, pesticides or chemical additives. This doesn’t mean that raw foodists sit down to a plate of plain salad every night. As more people have begun following a raw food diet, a wealth of raw food resources like cook books, websites and even restaurants have been created.

The Living and Raw Foods Internet community can help you get started with articles, creative recipe ideas and a discussion board where raw foodists and the curious can exchange ideas. Tasty treats like avocado gazpacho and paradise peach pie are sure to prove that even though a raw food diet is exceptionally healthy, it doesn’t have to be boring.
