To have an effective workout routine, we can safely say that stretching plays a major role. It comes at the beginning as part of a warm up and again, usually at the end, to help cool down. So, as we know, stretching is of some importance but exactly how important is it?

To start with, stretching is usually performed to enhance ones flexibility. Improving ones flexibility via stretching ultimately lessens the chance of causing an injury to yourself. If muscle tissue becomes over-stretched, a muscle strain can happen, which is a tear of the muscle. The good thing is, that to prevent muscle strain in the future, you can just keep up your stretching and flexibility.

You can prepare your muscles and tendons for exercise through proper stretching techniques and, in turn, your muscles will not become stiff after exercising.

Before you begin stretching, remember the following points:

1) Use an accurate stretching technique to make the most of your workout.
2) Stretching evenly on both sides of the body is a must.
3) Don’t hold your stretches until they hurt.
4) Remember to stretch before and after exercise for the best results.

Specialists and physical therapists can use stretches to help people recover from an injury. Stretching is known to help increase the range of motion of someone with an injury. It is imperative that the correct type of stretches are used when stretching to recover from an injury. It can take a lot longer to recover if the wrong type of stretches are used and even more seriously, the injury may get worse if the stretches are done incorrectly. Keep in mind that when stretching to recover from any type of injury, professional advice is necessary.

When stretching, remember to build up gradually to improve your flexibility. There are many physical benefits associated with stretching if done accurately and these include a greater range of movement, balance improvement, increased overall physical performance and less chance of injury when exercising, as well as increasing relaxation and demoting stress.

All ages can do some form of stretching. When we grow older, our muscles tend to get tighter. Even if your not into exercising, stretching regularly can be very beneficial to all with this in mind. To wrap up, stretching enhances ones flexibility and therefore can be quite beneficial to all ages.

To consider why stretching is so important, we have to look at aspects like the injury risk factor and our physical ability goals and we can see that to achieve these types of points, stretching is quite important. In laymen terms, stretching is important to those who wish to improve their flexibility and also, lessen the chances of any injury occurring when exercising. Remember that stretches must be done accurately and the best way to ensure this is to consult a professional.
