Habits that Contribute to Unhealthy Dieting

Unhealthy dieting can lead to some serious ailments such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes. However, by simply exchanging some unhealthy habits for healthier options you can improve your chances of steering clear of debilitating diseases that come along with a fatty, high calorie diet and a lack of exercise. In order to avoid the habits that may have gotten you into unhealthy dieting in the first place, it’s a good idea to have an understanding of some of the most common habits to watch out for.

Skipping Meals

Skipping meals, especially breakfast, contributes to unhealthy dieting for a number of reasons. First of all skipping meals increases the chance of binging in the evening, because by that time it’s hard to control hunger and cravings that have developed throughout the day due to a lack of energy from food.

Extra helpings at dinner time, big servings of ice cream and constant snacking after dinner are all common results of skipping meals. Even if you can’t find the time to sit down to a complete meal during your day, it’s important to keep healthy snacks on hand to keep yourself from getting hungry. Apples, cheese sticks, crackers, carrot sticks and nuts are all good options. 

Skipping Workouts

Whether losing weight is a goal of yours or not, regular exercise is important in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Skipping workouts can make it hard to get back on or stay on track with your regular exercise routine and in fact can even result in a diminished exercise regimen altogether. Even getting a quick walk in when you can’t fit in a scheduled workout can help keep your body in shape and ready for the next time you head to the gym.

Drinking Too Much Alcohol

Drinking alcohol lends itself to unhealthy dieting habits because it inhibits the ability to make decisions based on health. The more alcohol you drink the more chance there is of diving into nachos, burgers, French fries and other junk food instead of healthy options like fruit and popcorn. Consider limiting your alcohol intake to just one drink, but if you know you’ll engage in more than a cocktail or two make sure to fill up on healthy snacks before hand.
